State with the worst bbq?

North Carolina

Not only is it pork; it's shredded pork...think "already chewed" and you have a good idea of what that's like.  I nearly gagged.

Its the one thing I miss about living in North Carolina is the shredded BBQ pork and hush puppies.  And maybe Chick'Fil'a.  I agree with Tiny, BBQ should be PORK.  When I want steak then I will eat beef.

jdc, the fact that you just dropped Chick-fil-a into this conversation proves that you know what's up. And hush puppies. Damn, yo. I could not agree more with everything you just said. Steak. Steak. Medium rare to rare, depending on whether the person manning the grill is stupid.

Pet peeve: ordering steak medium rare and getting it back well. That's not even a pet peeve. And I lack the contrarian ability to send food back unless there are visible pubes. Give me real steak or I am taking my money to France!

:)  I have gotten to that I order steaks rare knowing that they always will overcook it some unless I know the place knows how to properly cook them.  Also, can't stand if they cover the steak with mushroom or other sauces.  Please... just ask if the person if they want sauce or put it on the side so I can decide.

I'm from California and moved to Portland.  And although there didn't used to be good Mexican food, now there is.  You just have to know which rock to look under.
Uri and I "discovered" Mexican food in our 4 years in So.Cal - we both grew up thinking we didn't much like it, but the stuff down there was a revelation.
Now, we are still turning over rocks up here. Just went to a new Mexican restaurant last week - very disappointing.

I'll add, Californians that move to the Pac NW
This is a reoccurring theme for you.

I feel this way about some Californians I know that came to live in the Northwest.  Yes - it rains.  Yes the Mexican food isn't as good.

Hey hey.. I started this peeve complaining about people being insulting to the local cultures not I feel like I am being insulted.  OK, I am not a born and breed Californian but it is the last place I lived before moving overseas and can't wait to go back and visit next month.
