Peter Hook
Same here.  He's my all-time favorite bass player.
2. Eric Avery-Jane's Addiction
3. Mike Mills-REM
4. John Entwistle-The Who
5. Kim Deal-The Pixies

Where does Paul McCartney rank? Or Bootsy Collins? Or Les Claypool?

Well...

6. John Paul Jones
7. Les Claypool
8. Bootsy Collins
9. Adam Clayton
10. Paul McCartney

Never heard of James Jamerson.

Where does Victor Wooten rank? Or Brian Wilson? Tina Weymouth? Or Mike Watt?

I don't know.  I do think Brian Wilson, Tina Weymouth, and Mike Watt are great.  I've heard of Victor Wooten.  Josh Homme I consider to be a fantastic guitar player than a bass player.  Nick Oliveri I liked a lot as a bass player.  Geddy Lee would be #11.  I would also put Flea but his bass playing lacks flair in recent year.

How does any discussion of great bass players go this long without mention of Tony Levin!

Lisa Turtle played bass? I remember she sang a mean "I'm So Excited", but I don't recall the bass playing.

Lisa and Kelly were the Supremes to Jessie's Diana Ross.
