Dear X Factor,

You know how we made an agreement where you would go your way and I would go mine and we weren't going to encroach upon each other's territory and we were all the better for it?

Yah, [noembed]This is way too far[/noembed]

I'll be coming. With a cattle prod gun.

I actually consider a lot of movies to be life-changing! I take them to my heart and they melt into my personality.

Dear Aoife,

Repeatedly throwing your blankie out of your crib will not ultimately prevent naptime. Also, it's really very boring out here - just me and stacks of papers. Best just go to sleep. (Trust me, you'll like it; I know I would.)

Love,
Mum

Please also learn how to read.

Mum
Have you always used the proper spelling? It definitely suits you. I can't imagine you as a mom.

"Mum" is mostly just wishful thinking on my part (also, I love that you call it the "proper" spelling - I agree - though most Americans wouldn't know what we were talking about). I should have made a point of making my kids more Anglo when they were young, I guess.

They rarely call me "mom" though - I don't like that either. It's usually "mama" - though as they get older, they'll probably switch to "mom" like most of their friends. Sigh.

I don't know.  My kids are 17 (almost 18  :o ), 14 and 10 and they still call us 'mommy' and 'daddy'.  I know of other kids that do the same.

lol - I didn't think anything of the correctness of that post until FCM pointed it out. That is the one word in the American lexicon that bugs me more than any other. Mum always sounds much nicer! Don't just wish it - enforce it ;)
