Of all the buffets I went to in Vegas, I think Aria's was the most impressive.

The Aria is well-positioned to explore the entire Strip.  Other than the usual sights and sounds of the Strip, I suggest the following:

Go to the EIFFEL TOWER RESTAURANT at Paris and sit at the bar at sunset and enjoy a drink while watching the lights of the Strip come on as well as the Fountains of Bellagio.  (You need reservations for dinner but can go up to the bar for a drink without a reservation. Great cocktails.  Smart casual attire only.)

Go see MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET at Harrah's.  Harrah's is a lousy casino, but this show is definitely worth seeing (unless you've seen it before, lots of incarnations of it around).

At Caesar's Palace (the best casino in Vegas), there is a shopping area called The Forum Shops.  Several nice dining places, cool shops, and stick around for the show on the ceiling which is enchanting.

Do not miss walking through both Wynn's and Encore.  The entrance areas and casinos to both hotels are beautifully decorated.  WAZUZU is a great Asian restaurant in Encore, one of the best meals you can have in Vegas which is not known for great food.

Of all the Cirque du Soleil shows on the Strip, I still like MYSTERE the best.

Skip downtown completely.

Off the Strip:
Other than Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon which you have mentioned, VALLEY OF FIRE STATE PARK is 50 miles north of Vegas.  It's a nice hiking park, but you can also access it on park roads in your car.  It's an interesting look at the red sandstone formations in the area and has some ancient petroglyphs also.

Whatever you decide to do, have fun!

I am your dam guide, Arnie. Now I'm about to take you through a fully funtional power plant, so please, no one wander off the dam tour and please take all the dam pictures you want. Now are there any dam questions?

Thanks Saltine!  We are definitely looking forward to this semi-vacation.  Your suggestions sounds great and I cannot wait to see as much as I can.

Hi dassix,

I'm a little slow replying to your request, because I wanted to ask my daughter her recommendations. She lived in Vegas while going to school. Here's her reply.

Hey mom!

Here is a list of a few things I thought of. I really don't know what they like or what money they are willing to pay for things but I tried to give a good range of things either way. Hope this helps.

Free Entertainment:
Bellagio Fountains
Bellagio Conservatory
M&M World and/or Hershey's Chocolate World
World of Coca-Cola
Welcome to Las Vegas Sign
Peter Lik Galleries (located in Venetian and Caesars)
Our favorite casinos to wander around (for either shopping or general sight seeing) - Bellagio, Venetian, Caesars, MGM Grand, New York New York, Excalibur, Luxor, Cosmopolitan.
Spray Paint Artists - you'll find them while walking the Strip or Fremont Street and it is worth watching!

Shows (in no particular order but a * says we LOVED it):
*Penn and Teller
Jabbawockeez
*Recycled Percussion
Any Cirque Du Soleil show - https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/las-vegas - we've heard good things about all of them.

Dining (we usually avoided eating on or near the Strip but here are some we enjoyed or hope to try someday):
Favorite Buffet - "Carnival World Buffet "at Rio's
"Heart Attack Grill" on Fremont Street
"Dick's Last Resort" in Excalibur (haven't tried it but it seems like an interesting environment)
"Tournament of Kings" at Excalibur

Near the Strip:
Fremont Street and the Downtown Container Park
Ethel M. Chocolate Factory - http://www.vegas4locals.com/free-things-to-do-in-las-vegas/ethel-m-chocolate-factory-tour/
Pinball Hall of Fame - http://www.vegas4locals.com/free-things-to-do-in-las-vegas/pinball-hall-of-fame/
Neon Sign Museum - http://www.neonmuseum.org/

Man, she's organized! :))

I can attest to some of these and love Saltine's suggestions too. Next time I go to Vegas I will go to Cirque Du Soleil's Beatles Love. It's on my bucket list. :)

Hope you have a fantastic time!

Just booked my flight for the Telluride Film Festival (4th time!) - unlike the last 3 though I've decided to stay a couple extra days and actually visit some of the amazing scenery instead of sitting in theaters for the whole weekend and flying home!

Thinking Mesa Verde, Four Corners, Canyonlands and Arches but if anyone has other suggestions for that area (SW CO, NE NM, SE UT) lemme know!

Bonus: Will knock two states off my to visit list (down to 7 after - back to 8 if we add Puerto Rico in the next several months.)

If you only have two days I would stick to Colorado, there is so much to do there, especially in the San Juans.  Southern Utah is amazing, but you need ample time to explore all its beauty.

Keith will be in a car, ses, not walking every square inch like you do!   :)
