Movies Only Worth Seeing For One Performance (Top 5 Idea)
« on: June 28, 2006, 09:11:28 PM »
I had an idea for a top 5 (not sure if it's been mentioned), but movies whose only redeeming quality is one top-notch performance. I couldn't think of many off the top of my head, but Christian Bale in American Psycho immediately comes to mind.

3) Emma Thompson in Love Actually
4) Joan Allen in Upside of Anger

1) Mira Sorvino "Mighty Aphrodite"
2) Charlize Theron "Monster"
3) Eric Bana "Troy" & "The Hulk" - Bana manages to shine in any role he's in
4) Gong Li "Memoirs of a Geisha" - Since its a supporting role I reccomend stopping the film as soon as her last scene is over since the rest of the movie is pure polished crap.
5) Cloris Leachman "Spanglish"

winrit, have no fear, I think im the only one in my family who's not in love with the film. Actually I do like it, and the love scene between Adam Sandler and Tea Leoni almost made me pee in my pants, (Hands down the funniest sex scene ever filmed). I just felt like Tea's character was way too over the top towards the end.

After watching the deleted scenes, theres one scene between Debb and Flor that should have made the final cut since it really humanizes Debb, but was unfortunately left out. Still its a fun flick, and like I said, Cloris Leachman is worth the rental alone.

Heath Ledger showed his acting chops long before old Jakey G caught his eye. His performance in Monster's Ball almost qualifies for this topic except Peter Boyle is very watchable too as Billy Bob's father. It's obviously a very flawed film in a lot of ways but because of Ledger there's something there which makes you feel like you've taken a kick in the guts.

Myself as well... I was intrigued by the trailer and totally enjoyed it when I saw it.

Deep Throat, huh, interesting

Anyways Bucho you mentioned Heath Ledger in Monster's Ball, I completely agree, I remember going to watch the film after Halle Berry's best actress win and thinking "This beat out Sissy Spacek, wtf!" But Ledger definately steals the show and it seemed like that was the inspiration for Ennis Del Mar, plus he has some awful dialouge to work with "Well, I always loved you" and yet manages to sock us in the gut.

What? You weren't equally as wowed with Tom Arnold's performance? kidding.

I wonder how Ms. Gyllenhaal reacted when she was informed that Tom Arnold would be a love interest? Bizarre casting in that movie.
