Actually, I think the problem is that at some point in time an end date was added to this poll, and once that date passed, the poll became irredeemably locked, even after the end date was removed.

ses or saltine might have the security to unlock it.

edit: Thanks, ses!

So there are levels among mods or has saltine just been amassing power for ten years?

There are 11 votes for Ran on this poll and somehow I'm the only one active. My theory is, the Seven Samurai people cleansed the forum long ago to preserve its purity.

Thanks ses.

@DH: There are mods and admins, like in any other forum really.

Next step if for us High & Low people to take over. Only two of us for now, but we'll get there.

Campaigns of terror often work that way.

The Quiet Duel (1949)
* * * - Good
On one hand, this is know as lesser Kurosawa (which still makes it better than most greater films by most Directors), but since is the pretty much the last chance I have to watch a new Kurosawa, I can't help hoping he knocks it out of the park. He doesn't, but there are plenty of moments distinctly his that make me very happy to have finally caught up. It's a melodrama, closer to the blunt storytelling of I Live in Fear and Scandal, but there is some of the elegance of Ikiru or Red Beard.

Kurosawa the writer has a knack for jumping past a major reveal and getting right into the characters reacting, which makes the turn much more immediate. He also sets up a nice contrast between the saintly doctor played by Toshirô Mifune and a patient he becomes forever linked to. The doctor is too moral to be fully believed, but he contrasts nicely with the patient, who isn't evil so much as a deeply flawed human. There's a bit of idiot plot in the middle where the doctor has no reason not to reveal his secret except to stretch the drama. However, some things that come up later perhaps explain why secrets were kept for so long.
