I saw it in the theatre and remember that end, however two things:

a. I know that I didn't necessarily consider that a sequel would be forthcoming.  I figured it was just one of those "or is it?"  kind of endings.

b. My memory isn't what it once was and perhaps I'm just remembering from one of my later viewings of BttF.

Actually, my memory was never that good, was it?  I can't remember...

BTTF is a standalone film that was given two more-than-decent sequels that play very nicely within the same universe.

Wikipedia says this wasn't part of the theatrical release.  Is that true?  Who saw BttF in the theater?

The ending was the same. That "To be continued..." title card was not in the original theatrical release. It was put there for the home video release and subsequently removed for the DVD release.

It is well known that the ending was meant more as a gag than anything else. If you go and watch the second movie you'll notice they even had to reshoot that scene because the original actress who played Jennifer Parker wasn't available and was thus replaced by Elisabeth Shue for Parts 2 and 3. The writers and producers have also spoken extensively about the fact that had it actually been a true setup for a sequel they would have come up with a better reason to go to the future and would not have brought Jennifer along as she was essentially dead weight.

Seriously, do you guys not know your BttF history? You do realize that Eric Stoltz was the original Marty McFly, but was fired and replaced by Michael J. Fox despite his problematic schedule interference with shooting Family Ties, right? I am so disappointed in all of you right now.

Unless someone changes their vote, when the poll reaches 100 votes, Die Hard will win.

Sorry, FH, but sometimes we just have to face hard, cold facts.

That isn't how this works. Nobody thought this poll would get 100 votes. Why is 100 the cutoff? There is no cutoff and BttF is the real winner no matter the poll results. Do you know why? It's because BttF is a better movie.

There will be no cutoff, you are correct.  It will just be true.  "Out of a hundred votes, Die Hard got 5-; BttF got 4-".

It's a hard world.

Sorry. I'm still bitter at Spirited Away losing out to A Clockwork Orange.  Nothing personal.

Of course, this is just a ruse.  I don't really care.

I'm very excited about seeing the Home Alone/Die Hard double feature again at the Bloor Cinema over the Christmas break. So much fun. Could only really be topped by a double feature of Back to the Future/Raiders of the Lost Ark.
