Die Hard!

I think I'd love how awkward it'd be, or how awkward it should be.

What's interesting about the place in Back to the Future in his filmography is that it and Roger Rabbit are also easily the best directed films he has made. The other ride heavily on screenplay and effects, and there are no different, but there is a certain playfulness to the direction of BttF that truly stands out as fantastic. Take, for example, how Marty and Doc are almost never on the same plane in the depth of field in any of their conversations. They constantly move back and forth, keeping the pace up and helping to really nail the comic timing. Or how about the way the film moves at a slow enough pace to work as a character comedy, but has enough speed to it that it is easy to forget the film is just a comedy rather than a great action sci-fi. Roger Rabbit shows real depth in his ability to create atmosphere around clearly zany goings on. If it weren't for Zemeckis' direction in Roger Rabbit the film would get bogged down by a lack of belief in the story being told. The special effects great, the direction holds it together.

Robert Zemeckis used to be one of my favorite directors of all time, but I didn't follow him into his current CG movie phase and I desperately wish he would stop.

Top Films in Order (and All Classics)

1. Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
2. Back To The Future
3. Romancing The Stone
4. Forrest Gump
5. Contact

too bad none of these films are as good as Die Hard.    ;D
