Conan O'Brien Will Leave 'The Tonight Show,' NBC Says

NBC says it has reached a deal with Conan O'Brien to leave
"The Tonight Show," allowing Jay Leno to return to the
late-night program he hosted for 17 years. The deal is worth
a reported $44 million. A network spokeswoman confirmed the
deal to The Associated Press early Thursday but did not offer
any other details.

According to MSNBC, 12 of that is severance for his staff.

And let us not forget that the negotiations were delayed by several days because Conan wanted a good severance for the staff. And back during the writers strike he paid his writers out of his own pocket. Conan is easily the classiest guy in Hollywood.

I love how some NBC people were trying to spin it as "Conan is just doing this for good pr".  Even if that was the case, which I really don't believe, he still got packages for his staff. Boy, what a greedy asshole.

The past couple weeks has really reminded me what a great sidekick Andy Richter has always been.  If he stayed on The Tonight Show as Leno's sidekick, I'd be hard pressed not to watch.

edit: "hard pressed" ... that's a real phrase, right?  Or did I just make it up?

The AP would prefer that you write it "hard-pressed."

Well, unless he goes to Fox or something.

Andy is the best.  I thought Late Night really lost something special when he left for sitcoms.  He did some wonderful work over that time, but he's always felt like one of those guys that is sorely underappreciated.  He's clearly the Jordan to Conan's Pippen - he's a great sidekick that is capable of being almost as great on his own.  His address following Conan's letter just about made me cry, both from laughter and disappointment because he really deserves to have a much bigger career. Wherever Conan ends up, I'm going to be real disappointed if Andy doesn't go too.
