My favorite female performance has been Juliette Binoche in The Flight of the Red Balloon.

Naomi Watts in Funny Games. I haven't seen it but she's good in everything.

Clearly you've forgotten about Betty Buckley in The Happening and Rachel Bilson in Jumper.

Seriously, though, I really enjoyed Gwyneth Paltrow in Iron Man. Also, maybe there's a performance you liked in Snow Angels, just released this year, though you probably haven't seen it since Sundance 2007.

Paltrow is a possibility, but there's just not a lot of meat there... I have considered Kate Beckinsale and Olivia Thirlby from Snow Angels. One of them might sneak on.

Of course... one of my regrets.

I've seen way too many male-centric movies so far this year.  I loved Mila Kunis in Forgetting Sarah Marshall but I don't know that it's really a great performance, just a very likable one.  I liked Melonie Diaz in Be Kind, Rewind; although, as with Paltrow, not much of a role.

Female performances so far:

Catinca Untaru from The Fall
Jess Weixler in Teeth
Lu Huang in Blind Mountain

If I had to have five I'd include:
Gweneth Paltrow - Iron Man
Mila Kunis - Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Either it's a bad year for actresses or I'm missing all the good movies, even though of the movies I've seen I'm having an even harder time thinking of great male performances.

Wanting for Thor what Thor wants for Thor.
