I loved The Dark Knight, but Batman Begins is the film where I finally got how Batman is supposed to be done.  And while the plotting was less ambitious than Knight, it was also less flawed.  I think Goyer's comic sensibilities complimented Nolan's intellectualism beautifully.  It's also the only Batman film where nobody steals the film from the title character.  Bale/Bruce/Batman owns this film.

The Dark Knight was the first Batman movie I've ever seen that didn't leave me feeling underwhelmed, so it wins by default, even though I haven't really had enough time for it to completely gel with me yet (I'm still in the "Holy batwings, that was awesome!" stage).

1. The Dark Knight ****
2. Batman Begins ****
3. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm ***
4. Batman (89) ***
5. Batman Returns **1/2
6. Batman Forever **
7. Batman & Robin

I wasn't that bothered by Batman Forever.  It's not a good movie but at the same time it is watchable.  If I am really bored and flipping through channels at 2 AM and I find it, I will watch it.  Batman & Robin is unwatchable.

Jimmy C makes that one.
