Someone should add The LEGO Batman movie here. I know at least one person who would vote for it.

Probably why chester added "(not including the animated stuff)". You add LEGO, you'd have to add Mask of the Phantasm and now you've ruined the spirit of the question.

I object to that. MOTP is clearly a companion piece to the Batman Animated Series and not a standalone movie/movie series. TLBM is its own thing. A better example would be one of the plethora straight to streaming Batman movies DC releases every year or so, but they're mostly unremarkable from what I understand and have seen.

After rewatching Batman Returns:

Batman Returns
Batman (1989)

The Dark Knight
Batman Begins
The Dark Knight Rises
Batman Forever
Batman v Superman

Batman & Robin

I think that's probably right with the exception of I'd have Forever above Rises and it'd be the same color as Begins.

I need to watch Returns again. Haven't seen it since I was a child but I remember it being very horrific and Gothic.

I've made my case for Begins, but Batman Returns single-handedly reminds me how great Tim Burton used to be and is a definite improvement over his first Batman film.

I think this actually helps show the biggest difference in how we view and rate films, 1SO. I'd almost always rate a movie that has even one A or A+ scene or sequence higher than a film that is solidly a B throughout. Where it seems like you really appreciate films that can achieve a consistent quality level throughout, which anyone who works in the industry knows, is remarkably challenging. You could argue achieving that one A+ scene is probably easier than crafting an entire film at the B level.
