i figured for sure that lise would have
Down By Law under her belt as she has put effort into watching New Orleans films and that she has an expansive viewing history (i get this more from the f2f time i spent with her, not from reading all but about 50 pages of her posting history). that said, i knew i had to check in with her on that miniscule chance that she had not yet seen
DBL - surprise, surprise - she hadn't! on top of the film having Crescent City locations, i love the fact that i am able to share one of my favorite directors - Jim Jarmusch. though
DBL is probably usually considered one of his minor works (and it has issues), it was my first Jarmusch, and probably also an early (my first?) intro into art/alt film. this is probably his most mainstream film in that the humor isn't so dry, especially with Roberto Benigni in one of his better performances.
had
DBL not worked out, i was going to float a second film i figured she would have seen,
A Home at the End of the World, with one of her boy candies - Colin Farrell. his role in this film is quite unlike most everything else i have seen him in - a quiet, dorky character that is sweet, loving, and vulnerable. the film also stars Robin Wright Penn, and the
that guy Dallas Roberts, with an appearance by Sissy Spacek. this film barely blipped into theatres in 2004, but i think it is a sweet little gem (especially as it deals fairly well with an alternative relationship model).
i had a bevy of next films in mind and i was hoping not to have to resort to something far out, though i hadn't ruled it out
.
i'm looking forward to also rewatching this film - lise, i hope you enjoy it!
