So are we still assigning match-ups ourselves based on interest and availability?

Yes...

If so I have two in mind for myself Postmen in the Mountains and Lost and Found. Pretty well the first two movies I came across that sounded enjoyable and were available to me after clicking around randomly.

...and awesome.

I need a suggestion for a good match-up against Hao nan hao nu. Due to my inferior knowledge of Oriental cinema I came up with nothing.

How about Zhang Yimou's To Live?

I guess I'm PC-guy today (skjerva must be busy), so I'll tell you the first thing you need to know is:  don't call it "Oriental".

I thought 'oriental' was only perjorative in reference to a person or people, but okay for rugs and, I'm assuming, films...

That's why I cited a source:

"While a number of reference works used in the United States describe Oriental as pejorative, antiquated or offensive in some instances, the American Heritage Book of English Usage notes that

It is worth remembering, though, that Oriental is an ethnic slur to be avoided in all situations. It is most objectionable in contemporary contexts and when used as a noun, as in "the appointment of an Oriental to head the commission". In these cases Asian (or a more specific term such as Vietnamese, Korean, or Asian American, if appropriate) is the only acceptable term. But in certain historical contexts, or when its exotic connotations are integral to the topic, Oriental remains a useful term.[3]"

It's a grey area, but why would you even want to risk it when other non-offensive and more accurate words are readily available?

I had no idea that oriental would be even remotely offensive.

Edward Said has written a book an that term, go check it out if you want to feel ashamed.

I wish people would be more negative on at least one of their matchups films. How am I ever gonna trim down that list?
