My two.
Ashes of Time  (Wong Kar-Wai, 1994, Hong Kong)
Autumn Moon  (Clara Law, 1992, Hong Kong)

Should I watch the REDUX AiT? Is there a diff?

Yeah, go ahead and watch the Redux, I think.  It's a better quality DVD, for one thing.

I thought about this earlier today and came up with A Scene at the Sea vs. Undo ... but I'm not sure you need the encouragement of the bracket to see more Kitano ... so maybe Nostalgia for the Countryside vs. A Mongolian Tale would be better.

Not to mention the death-threat pressure of such a matchup. ;D

There were a few films in particular I avoided when figuring out a matchup. I don't trust myself with them yet. :)

I'll take the latter pairing, thanks!

I'm gonna go for Happy Together vs. The Supermarket Woman (though I may have to swap it out if I can't get it) for my second pairing in the second round.

Picture Bride (Kayo Hatta, 1995) - Thor
vs
Peppermint Candy (Lee Chang-Dong, 1999) - roujin

Anyone have any objections or thoughts on this match-up? It's sort of what I have in mind for my next pair. (Re)Read the write-ups... both intrigued me, Peppermint Candy particularly, which sounds unique and also fairly accessible (is that about right rouj?). I'm not married to this match-up mind you.

Unlike round 1 where I just kind of watched whatever, in Round 2 I'm really looking for movies that I think I'll enjoy, so if you think I'm headed for disaster here, please say so.  :)

I know that I really enjoyed Comrades when I watched it, but it's been so long now that I don't remember it too well. I'm very interested to hear what someone else thinks.
