OOPs wait...

Edit: okay fixed the matchup. I was thinking about Comrades but then swapped it out because I just watched a film you moved forward... I didn't want it to seem like I was picking on (or favouring) you. But yeah, Comrades sounded good.  ;)

I'm looking for something to match with A Brighter Summer Day. Any suggestions?

I'll do an animated match-up next:
Talking Head  (Mamoru Oshii, 1992, Japan)
VS
Pom Poko (Isao Takahata, 1994, Japan)

Interested to hear how you like Talking Head. I'm always looking for more animated movies to watch. The problem I have in the bracket is half I've seen and the other half I don't realize are animated movies until someone writes up a verdict. I'm hoping Jin-Roh will be around for my next pair...be interesting to see what was picked over Dreams since I like that film a lot.

I don't think Talking Head is animated.

Quite so...got confused by the intro line. Maybe it didn't mean a match up of animated films but a match up that would be lively. :)

Can I put in a request for

Center Stage
vs
Farewell China

They're both screening at Cinematheque in September as part of their season on Maggie Cheung.

And I'll ask a quick question about whether there was a reason Song of the Exile (Ann Hui, 1990, Hong Kong/Taiwan) wasn't included in the bracket? It's showing in the Maggie Cheung season as well.

Can I also request

After Life
vs
Little Cheung

Which I'll hopefully get to before September.

All my efforts to track down a copy of it failed.  I thought interlibrary loan was going to come through for me, but it didn't work out.

Going by the cover I thought Talking Heads was going to be an animated film. It's animated alright, but not in the hand-drawn sense. Let me show you what I mean.

Heh.

Hmm, so even if I can see it, it's probably not worth it if no one else will be able to find it in later rounds. Okay. Just letting you know that it is screening, and I'm more than likely checking it out.

Yeah, it sounds pretty must-see, from everything I read about it.
