The fifth round will begin by the end of this week.
If you'd like a fifth-round matchup, please check in below. I'm going to seed the final thirty-two films ahead of time (#1 though #8, four films each) but not lock in any specific matchups. There will be a lottery of prospective participants, and the person with the first pick can choose to pit any #1 film against any #8 film; or any #2 versus any #7 film; or #3 versus #6; or #4 versus #5. The person with the second pick can either join that same matchup (it's a best-of-three this round) or match up any of the remaining films following the same seed-vs.-seed restrictions. And so on. Once all sixteen matchups are determined, I'll lock them into a four-quadrant bracket (like
so).
If the first two verdicts for a specific matchup are in agreement, the winning film will advance to the next round. If there's a tie, then a third person will take on the matchup and their verdict will break the tie.
Eventually, people will have to start taking matchups that include at least one film they've seen before (and perhaps even reviewed for the bracket). But preference should generally be given to the matchups where neither film is a strong favorite/underdog ahead of time; and also to matchups where both films will be given a fresh look. In cases where that's not possible, you can let me know which matchups are possibilities for you, and I'll assign one at random.
Cool?
