I have only seen Chloe, which was ok, but worth a vote.

Updated Rankings

Next of Kin (1984)
* * ½
I feel generous calling this a mixed review because Egoyan's feature debut is only interesting held up against the films that came later. Many of his familiar obsessions regarding family dysfunction and artificial emotional barriers are present, but they're not given much form and the characters are really uninteresting, which I think is more the fault of Egoyan not knowing how to get some energy out of his cast.

Family Viewing (1987)
* * ½
One film later and Egoyan is almost there. The themes have a more interesting context thanks to some inventive plot turns that he's learning how to drip out. The filmmaking is still technically quite rough, but there's a nice throbbing score that reminds me how good he would get at creating mood through music in Exotica and The Sweet Hereafter.

I remember liking Family Viewing more than that, but I'd be nervous to put that memory to a test. (Ararat made me revise down my opinion of every other Egoyan film, lol. So inept.)
