I have not read the book - but I DID NOT like the film...b-o-r-i-n-g.

I will say this.

When I walked out of the movie, all I talked about was how cool the sound design was - how they did such a good job of integrating the typewriter clicks into the soundtrack.

Then I talked about how the continuous shot represented the shift from reality to something different.

Then I talked about how the movie must have not overwhelmed me because all I felt like discussing was the technical aspects of the film and how Kiera has gone from cute-but-athletic-skinny (ala Bend it Like Beckham) to scary-you-need-help-skinny. Oh, if only I could bake that woman some pies...

Joe Wright really screwed up.

I actually thought the film was an extremely close adaptation.

Yeah, it definitely was rather close, but that's not always a good thing.

Rod Steward was at one point much cooler than I ever gave him credit for.

That I need to to buy organic potatoes - organic everything for that matter:

In the the potato field next to our house today, this was happening.

It's the second time they've sprayed. The first time a lush green field was dead brown in less than a day. (Why can't they wait til the frost?) I feel a little sick.

Old movies are automatically better than new ones. And serious ones are automatically better than fun ones.

My theory about old movies is that the good ones endure longer. There was just as much crap made in 1949 as they make nowadays, but the further away we get from 1949, the more we only want to see the best that year had to offer. I am sure that year had the equivalent of The Day After Tomorrow, but everyone has forgotten it.
