Not a popular name, it's taken me this long to discover I've seen many of his movies and he's worked with so many classic Hollywood movie stars, I'm going to watch many more. I was going to list names, but it's a staggering amount, from Hush Money with Joan Bennet, Myrna Loy and George Raft to Standing Room Only with Paulette Goddard, Fred MacMurray and Edward Arnold.

The Well-Groomed Bride (1946)

A silly idea involving two people fighting over the last bottle of champagne in San Francisco - WWII has just ended - is made very pleasant by the casting of Olivia de Havilland and Ray Milland. Both actors excel in a wide variety of genres, Milland had just won the Oscar for Lost Weekend, but light comedy is where I enjoy watching them most. Most of the film rests on the two of them and the stars create a lot of chemistry, balancing their schemes to win the last bottle with the growing understanding of how much they're falling in love. The film captures the national mood with soldiers returning home to their sweethearts and finds comedy in the problem with taking a stroll through the hills of San Francisco.

I may have seen The Princess and the Pirate, but I ended up going with Haven't Seen any.

1. The Hound of the Baskervilles

I recognized the title Hat Check Girl from my grandma's diary.

I’ve seen many. This particular one kicks off the Basil Rathbone series, and I own the Box Set. It’s the only Sherlock I own.

Odd to start there. Whereas there is mostly no order to the books I have read, there very much is a first book, where Holmes and Watson meet each other and much of the tropes of the series are set up.

Hardly the strangest move of the series, which after the 2nd film abandons the period to bring the characters to World War 2 where they can fight German spies.

Standing Room Only (1944)

Typical Lanfield. Take a Great Cast and don't give them enough material to be funny so they have to amp up the charm. This particular rom-com stars Paulette Goddard, Fred MacMurray, Edward Arnold, Roland Young, Clarence Kolb and Porter Hall. Everyone's working hard, but only Arnold manages to be surprisingly funny.
