I just read James Beradinelli's report on Toronto.  He saw The Brothers Bloom and seems to enjoy it more than Brick.

Are you guys going to get a chance to see Flash of Genius with Greg Kinnear & Lauren Graham?

I think I had the choice to see Flash but went with something else. I'm not dying to see it and can see it easily in Chicago, obviously. I skipped Burn After Reading too.

Hey Adam,

I'm here in Toronto to but haven't seen any of the films you've seen. Did catch the premieres of Me and Orson Welles and Lovely Still.  The former was a good, if fairly conventional Linklater film.  Performances were pretty solid though.  The real find was Lovely Still with Ellen Burstyn and an amazing Martin Landau!  (Deserves an Oscar nom!) The filmmaker was pretty young but he created a surprisingly strong, mature story.  There's also a plot twist....which I won't reveal but seems to have satisfied the audience!  I got to talk to Burstyn afterward - what a talent!

It makes sense to skip Burn After Reading since the review is next week anyway and the advertising campaign doesn't highlight a limited release so it shouldn't be too difficult to see. Interesting to see Nick and Nora's getting three stars, though that's sort of where I figured it would end up as the trailer didn't look like anything special and most of my Cera hype has been put on hold along with the release of Youth in Revolt. Looking forward to the rest of the coverage.

How was Anne Hathaway in Rachel Getting Married?

The trailer showed that she is playing something that's against her usual roles and in Venice, she's primed to win Best Actress.

The Brothers Bloom - *** 1/2
that's disappointing .
Really? I consider 3.5 a pretty strong rating.

Well, not when Brick got 5, I think he means.

right.

"But Wenders ended the ceremony on a surprise note, taking the microphone after the awards were handed out to criticize the festival's rules, which dictate that the best performance awards must go to different films than those that take the top prizes."

This confuses me slightly. Does this mean that a Best Actor or Best Actress award can't be awarded to someone in the film that won Best Feature or does this mean something else? I thought Blancett received Best Actress and I'm Not There won Best Feature in Venice last year.

Blanchett did win Best Actress, but Lust Caution won the Golden Lion.

I'm Not There received a Special Jury Prize.
