He's different, but usually not that good or interesting.
His directing is fine; I don't like him.
I despise his work, but recognize his talent. Whenever someone starts to talk to me about any of his films, I cut them off with a, "Let me guess. A beautiful, but simple, woman has her own morality turned against her and something horrible happens to her - usually ending with some combination of violence, death, and disturbing sex?"
I will admit, however, I am always amused by the little performance art piece he does for the media to promote his films, whether it be bragging about how many cameras he used or explaining how, even though he has not stepped on American soil, only he can truly understand the heart of America. Or how he added the 'von' to his name because he thought people would think he was more interesting with it. Or how he channels the spirit of Carl Dreyer.
