Just got around to listening to the show. I liked the Neil Burger interview, Adam. I'm really surprised to hear that he was #1 on your "top directors to watch" poll on the basis of The Illusionist. Who else was in your list - and does Burger still hold your #1 spot?

You'd have to look at the top 5 page. He probably didn't need to be at #1, but he'd be up there obviously. It wasn't just The Illusionist though. I also thought Interview with the Assassin was interesting.

and does Burger still hold your #1 spot?
Wanting for Thor what Thor wants for Thor.

I'd put Johnson and Field ahead of him.

There was a comment in this weeks show about the german officer being more sympathetic than the white officer. That was a brainfart, right?

Anyway, what I really want to discuss is why Crash gets dumped on for being so "on the nose" while the Do the Right Thing is praised for exactly the same thing. There isn't a lot of subtext in either script.

I wouldn't even know where to begin comparing Crash and Do The Right Thing... it'd be like comparing Christina Aguilera (who does have some lungs) to Mozart. Sorry, I just don't even think they're close.

And it wasn't a brainfart. The Nazi officer who gets yelled at by the more powerful Nazi officer (which I did specify) has way more humanity than the white officer.

I think he's saying that the Nazi officer was white also.  Maybe American v. Nazi is what he's getting at.

I guess that must be it... surely nobody who has seen the movie will be confused about who I was referring to.
