for oneaprilday: cases for resurrection
« on: October 19, 2008, 12:14:54 PM »
with only 7 pairings left to be decided it is probably time to start seriously lobbying oad for resurrections of various wronged films.  while this has been ongoing, it seems humane to consolidate all our arguments in one place :)

My first priority is Todd Haynes' Safe (1995).  I'll currently just drop a link to a quick defense for the film, hopefully I'll do it again soon to provide some fresh (and more compelling) thoughts.

Oh//Oh my//God.  Paula, do you have a Kleenix?  Do you

If you haven't experienced the film, it is better if you don't read this line: I love you

and, I'm not sure this is the best sell for the film, but it is fun:)

But I wish the public could, in the midst of its pleasures, see how blatantly it is being spoon-fed, and ask for slightly better dreams.

yeah, i've always disliked that ranking system and that it was included in the bracket.  now i dislike it even more as it implies Safe is not worthy of resurrection  :P

My first priority is Todd Haynes' Safe (1995).

For me Safe is second only to Hoop Dreams.

My resurrection hopefuls:

1. Hoop Dreams (69)
2. Safe (197)
3. Big Night (99)

Speaking of which, someone else should write something convincing in favor of Heat and Jackie Brown. And I'll third Safe.
