Penn and DiCaprio are my only votes so far, and Del Toro looks tempting in the Whitaker Last King kind of way, but I'm holding off on solidifying anything there.

With Viggo now (sadly) out of this year's race, my predictions look like this:

1. Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon
2. Sean Penn, Milk
3. Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
4. Brad Pitt, Benjamin Button
5. Richard Jenkins, The Visitor

I'll fully admit Jenkins is probably wishful thinking, but he has somehow managed to stay relevant so far I think there's a lot less competition for Best Actor this year than the previous 2 or 3, so I think he's got a fighting chance (and he more than deserves it). I like Pitt's odds even if Benjamin Button doesn't get nominated for Best Picture, it's a great role and it looks quite showy. Plus, he's earned a lot of good will in Hollywood the past few years but hasn't had a nomination since Twelve Monkeys, so he's due. Rourke is the comeback story of the year and his performance has already been seen and universally loved, so he's probably a lock. Milk is bound to be nominated in some form or fashion, and at the very least it's going to get a lead actor nom for Penn. That brings us to Langella, who I was lucky enough to see in the stage production of Frost/Nixon. He's truly remarkable (granted, my opinion of Langella means nothing to the Academy), and it would be a chance for AMPAS to give out one of those career achievement Oscars they like to dole out. He's the favorite in my book if he even comes close to matching his stage performance.

Voting Penn Pitt & Rourke for now and taking a wait an see on the rest.

Those were the three I immediately picked.  Also went with Craig and DiCaprio for no real reason.

Just caught up with The Visitor and Jenkins completely nails it (except for his big moment of anger where things got a little "actory" with the finger gesture.)  It opened my eyes to how 1 spectacular performance can turn a movie I would have little interest in into a spellbinding experience.

I've liked Jenkins for a while, but this is his finest work, and the best work by an actor this year.  And I think it just might be undeniable enough to grab the nod.

I know it's not going to happen, but Ellen Page was nominated for Juno last year, the Supporting Poll has shown that fellow Filmspotters wouldn't mind RDJ getting nominated for Tropic Thunder, not to mention the studio is apparently campaigning for him as well, but following this idea Steve Coogan deserves a nomination for Hamlet 2. He was the equivalent to Daniel Day-Lewis in that film. That's how I felt when I first saw it, and I've been thinking about that over the past few weeks. It truly is deserving of some sort of recognition.

It's 'cause you're dumb.  :P

Well, actually, I don't see Che getting any Oscar nominations either. But Filmspots galore!
