...and Bergman and Karwai and Woody Allen.  These are some obvious choices that will saturate a top 20 list but not a top 50.

Well, I came up with an initial 50 that I'm okay with, so I'm good with expanding the ballot. Lot of fun new names. I think everyone should look at the Women's Directors thread before coming up with their list. I feel like often times when a male director makes a movie it is "Director's Film" and when a female director makes a movie it is "A film (by director)"

Id much perfer 50. Ill make a more accurate list that way, while I would try to game it too much with 20.

I'm saying we are more apt to think of male directors as auteurs.

I don't think thats true at all - Akerman, Denis, Bigelow, even Nancy Meyers (She's redoing Private Benjamin?!?) are all thought of as auteurs. not that there's anything wrong with that.

Perhaps...I'd still say it is true a bit.

Anyway, I was just thinking of my personal list criteria. I feel like I have to have seen at least two films that I hold in high regard for a director to make my list. No one hit wonders (no matter how good that hit was).

I would be very excited to do this again. I know my list will be way different than last time.
