November Book Club: Light in August
« on: November 17, 2008, 11:20:51 PM »

Alright, let's do this thing.

My copy is 500 pages, so I'll try to break it up so we finish around the first week of December (figuring Thanksgiving could slow people down — or speed them up, if they're flying somewhere).  So some targets for each Monday:

November 24 — Chapters 1 - 7
December 1 — Chapters 8 - 14
December 8 — Chapters 15 - 21

Who's excited?

I think I'd love how awkward it'd be, or how awkward it should be.

I'll head down and pick up a copy later this afternoon.

Looking forward to another book club.

Once I finish my book dictation, I'm on it.

So my library only has Light in August: The Corrected Text, what does that even mean?  Is it the same?

It is the corrected text because it presents the text of the original manuscript, rather than with corrupt transcriptions, based on the first magazine appearance, or otherwise.

Mine seems to be a really old Modern Library version from 1950.

It looks like I have the corrected text as well, ses. Mine is an omnibus of four of his novels from 1930-1935.

I started today, but I doubt I'll be ready for the first deadline. That said, I'd likely put money on me finishing it before the last.

I'll get some thoughts up on the first seven chapters this weekend.
