Raiders of the Lost Ark

I have some major blind spots when it comes to 1981. I need to see Mad Max 2, Pixote, Das Boot, Mephisto, and Reds.

My vote: Other - Rat-Trap (Gopalakrishnan)

It barely edges out Pixote.

Other worthy titles to look into:

Lola (Fassbinder)
Cutter's Way (Passer)
Modern Romance (Brooks)
They All Laughed (Bogdanovich)
S.O.B. (Edwards)
Crac (Back)
The Aviator's Wife (Rohmer)
The Garden of Earthly Delights (Brakhage)
Gently Down the Stream (Friedrich)
History of the World: Part 1 (Brooks)

Not if pixote doesn't add it as an option!  :P

(Okay, Rat-Trap added.)

If Rat-Trap doesn't get another three or so votes (fat chance) by the deadline, I'll change my vote to Pixote if it helps it place second...I mean if people been politickin,' I guess I will, too!

I actually really like Rat-Trap even though I have to admit that I didn't think of it as a possible option when I originally voted in this thread. It's one of my mom's favorite films (my mom's first language is Malayalam and its one of the languages we speak at home) and I remember watching it with her several times when I was young and being excruciatingly bored :). It felt like a completely different film when I watched it as an adult though. I don't think I'm changing my vote, however (sorry Verite :( ) because I can't get over the fact that the point at which the film actually gains dramatic momentum (death in the family) never works for me for some reason. I really should watch these Adoor Gopalakrishnan movies again though.

Out of that list, I've seen eleven. Out of that eleven, these are my top ten:

10. Scanners - Okay, this is one those flicks that I barely remember watching. I do remember back when I did watch it, thinking that it was really cool. But then again, back then, I thought that stop-motion special effects were the sh#t.
I'd have to watch it again to determine how I would rate this movie now.
I only put this on here b'cuz in order to make this list an even ten, it was either this or Blow Out.

9. Southern Comfort - Even though in this movie, no one squeals like a pig,
there are enough inbred backwoods hillbillies to scare off even a squad of National Guardsmen.

8. Evil Dead - Gorrrre.

7. Clash of the Titans - Yo, back when stop-motion was the sh#t.

6. Arthur - On my very first date ever, this was the movie I took her to see.
Afterwards, she let me feel her up.
Good times good times.

5. Stripes - Early Bill Murray. That's all I need to like this flick.

4. On Golden Pond - I avoided this film for a long time cuz I felt no interest in watching a movie whose story was about a really old couple.  When I finally saw it, I must say,
there's one scene in this movie where Jane Fonda looks just absolutely, ridiculously hot.

3. An American Werewolf in London - Before the lead character in this movie was a werewolf, he was a Pepper. And for some subliminal reason, that made me want to be a Pepper too.

2. Mad Max 2 - A  bad-ass lead character, a feral wolf-boy and his boomerang, , a "junk-yard" fortress, an ayatollah of rock-n-rolla, a kick-ass car-chase, Australian accents, & more S&M costumes than a German hardcore porn video (or so I heard...).
Everything you need to make a solid thrill-ride of a post-apocalyptic action movie, moyt.

1. Raiders of the Lost Ark - Best.
Action.
Adventure.
Movie.
Ever.

Pixote, one of my all time favorites.
I’ve lied to men who wear belts. I’ve lied to men who wear suspenders. But I’d never be so stupid as to lie to a man who wears both a belt and suspenders.
