Videodrome. There's something about early Cronenberg that gets to me.
-Le Chiffre: You changed your shirt, Mr Bond. I hope our little game isn't causing you to perspire.

-James Bond: A little. But I won't consider myself to be in trouble until I start weeping blood.

he made my 20 directors in the strength of Videodrome, Rabid, Shivers, don't care as much for his recent stuff, either
But I wish the public could, in the midst of its pleasures, see how blatantly it is being spoon-fed, and ask for slightly better dreams.

That wasn't quite what I meant. I think he's just as good now as he was back in the day. However, there is something very raw about his early films that provide them with a quality that's difficult to find. There was a 'no holds barred' quality to them. He makes different movies these days, but I like him just as much.

The Family Game, probably.

Sans Soleil was good.

So was Videodrome.

yeah, i agree with the rawness.  i think his films have the same theme, just that the last few have been more glossy -  EP and Spider were both good, still haven't done AHoV.   eXistenZ and before all have a different flavor, with the earlier stuff i cited being edgiest. i refer my ruminations on the body to be more griity than less

Lots I want to see from this year (Le Bal, Scarecrow, Danton, Lianna, etc.), but I'm still very happy voting for Sugar Cane Alley.  Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and Pit, Pendulum, and Hope are favorites as well.

Never Cry Wolf, without even looking. It's that good. If it weren't for Amadeus it would be the best film of the 80's, in my mind.
