Wow, I honestly did not expect Videodrome to have the lead this deep into the voting. Cronenberg's always been one of my favorites, so I'm glad to see filmspotters give him some props.
-Le Chiffre: You changed your shirt, Mr Bond. I hope our little game isn't causing you to perspire.

-James Bond: A little. But I won't consider myself to be in trouble until I start weeping blood.

I think it's ahead because the field is kind of shallow.

My vote: Other - Death and Transfiguration (Davies).

But who knows, the next time I watch Sans Soleil, it might take the top spot.

Other worthy titles:

Style Wars (Chalfant, Silver)
My Brother's Wedding (Burnett) - Original Cut
Three Crowns of the Sailor (Ruiz)
"When in doubt, seduce."

Though there are times when a movie can lose it's luster over time, there are often times that my first experience of a film tends to stay with me when it comes to evaluating how much I like the flick. As I look at the choices for this particular year, I've notice that the majority of my list is based on that more than anything else. Maybe at some later date, if the mood strikes me, I'll try to look at it with a more "technical eye", but for now, this is how it stands:

 10. Octopussy -. Back then, I thought that Roger Moore as James Bond with all the over-the-top gadgets & villians was kinda cool.  :-\
Also,  at the time, my minimally formed brained just thought it was cool to say the word "Octopussy" in front of the adults.  :-\
Okay, okay, this movie has definitely lost it's luster. These days, I couldn't care less about any of these early 007 filcks,
but other than the next nine, I haven't seen any of the other movies of this year  & needed one more to make this list an even ten.

9. Trading Places - Only cuz, back then, I had such a hard-on for Jamie Lee Curtis.

8. Bad Boys - The only reason this is one is on my list is because I had a friend who played one of the gang-members in this flick. And on that whole six degrees of separation thing, that puts me only one degree away from that one dude from La Bamba, yo. Hell, we practically know each other.

7. The Right Stuff - Years ago, at a sci-fi convention in Kansas City, some friends & I not only got to meet Gordon Cooper, but also  got to have dinner with him & share a limo ride to the airport. And on that whole six degrees of separation thing, that puts me only one degree away from outer space.

6. Tender Mercies - "I never trusted happiness." Prolly the first movie that helped me to  realize that if I'm get thru this thing called life, I'm gonna really have to start accepting the good with the bad.

5. The Dead Zone - Christopher Walken with a superpower other than his acting, yo.

4. National Lampoon's Vacation - What can I say? Seriously. I don't think that there was anybody on the planet who was my age at the time who didn't think that this was some funny-ass sh#t.

3. Wargames - Shall. We. Play. A. Game?

2. A Christmas Story - Lemme tell you guys something, if Santa were to leave an official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot range model air rifle/BB gun under my tree this year, even at my current age, I'd be beating my chest & proclaiming to the whole world that it's a wonderful life.
And before anyone says anything,
lemme just say
"F#ck my eye. I don't care."

1. Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi - Yeah, I know that this is prolly the worst of the original series, but at the time of it's initial release, for me, there was was nothing more important than the Force Fever that was sweeping all of society back then.
I don't care that the Ewoks were corny, stupid & had a hit song at the time (if anyone out there has the 12-inch extended dance mix to this, contact me & you will have a new very best friend ... ), for my sci-fi geeked-out ass, this sh#t wuz sho', yo.
