I think the additional lists and the stretching of docs and other under-represented categories totally addresses my concern. I wasn't trying to be difficult or to blow this up to a ridiculously large list. This all sounds good to me.

i'll admit to not being too enthused about using IMDb to add, though i think it does some of what it seems folks want, i also think it bulks-up with things we are trying to avoid - more common pop film.

I was actually surprised to see that at least 50% of the IMDb films seemed to be documentaries, independent films, etc.  And the the other 50% seemed to strongly coincide with titles that are being mentioned in Filmspotters' individual lists (something like 6 of 7 of ses' films, for example).

and while The Guardian does give us 101, i think it actually has a pretty good mix of pop and less well-known film (check which films appear only on TG's list: Kiss of the Spider Woman, Liquid Sky, Matewan, Repo Man, as well as pop classics like Heathers, Risky Business, and Top Gun) - it would be utterly wrong to have an 80s US bracket without a nice selection of these pop films.

Some of those would be on the IMDb list, too.  Here's the overlap:

Platoon
The Untouchables
The Blues Brothers
Predator
Airplane!
Matewan
Field of Dreams
Batman
The Evil Dead
An American Werewolf in London
After Hours
Roger & Me
Kiss of the Spider Woman

I fell asleep wondering if individual segments of Eyes on the Prize could be eligible.

TSPDT, C, and F100 all included a national identity, so i lazily accepted those sources as good enough. the case for some of the above has been made before, if you want to fight to kick them out provide some reasoning (to some small degree i just ask myself if it makes sense then to imagine the film being in the other bracket).

I've found IMDb to be pretty good with country affilation, and with Paris, Texas, for example, there are three countries listed and USA isn't one of them.  The production companies on the film are mostly from Germany, with ones from France and the UK mixed in.  That's pretty much the case with all the films I listed.  I wasn't saying anything definitive; just that I had questions about them.  The other thing I generally check is where the film opened first.  For Bagdad Cafe, that was West Germany, coinciding with the nationality of the director.  I've always assumed that Hotel Terminus was a French film, just like Sorrow and the Pity.  Samuel Goldwyn was one of the production companies though, so maybe not.  Still, of all the ones I listed, that's the one that most feels like it belongs in a prospective European bracket instead.

both other brackets are in the 200 range...

Far East has grown to 300, actually.

wow. I'm a bit overwhelmed by this whole thing. Here's some possibilities that might have been mentioned, or might have been missed;

Elephant Man
Prizzi's Honor
Last Temptation of Christ
All of Me
Porky's
Monster Squad  :)
Repo Man (English director, but...)
Crackers/Alamo Bay

I'm going to lobby for Back to School (1986).

So moving.  :'( It's like he's George C. Scott's more talented brother.

Also...  Caddyshack (1980) and Easy Money (1983). And then let's have Moving (1988) and Brewster's Millions (1985) as well, please.

it would be good to increase representation for female directors
From Top 5 lists at Senses of Cinema:

The Man Who Envied Women (Yvonne Rainer, 1985)
Beirut: The Last Home Movie (Jennifer Fox, 1987)
Siesta (Mary Lambert, 1987)
Dance of the Damned (Katt Shea, 1988)
Testament (Lynne Littman, 1983)
Slumber Party Massacre (Amy Jones, 1982)
Big (Penny Marshall, 1988)
Ishtar (Elaine May, 1987)
The Loveless (Kathryn Bigelow & Monty Montgomery, 1982)
You Are Not I (Sara Driver, 1981)

I'd definitely like Testament to make it in there (not that I've seen it), and duder has already put in a good word for The Loveless.  Of course, I'm also really, really curious about Slumber Party Massacre, but I'll probably have to get to that in my own time.

I'm just sticking to the films I can personally vouch for (though the list of films I can't vouch for seems much more interesting).

1. Streetwise
2. Ordinary People
3. The Times of Harvey Milk
4. Eyes on the Prize: Bridge to Freedom
5. The Fox and the Hound
6. Secret of NIMH
7. The Color of Money
8. Gremlins
9. Colors
10. The Weavers: Wasn't That a Time
11. Return of the Secaucus 7
12. Stand and Deliver

Then, in case all those find there way in through other means, some guiltier pleasures, which may or may not totally suck:

12. Clue
13. First Blood
14. Highlander
15. F/X
16. Lean on Me
17. 48 HRS.
18. Nighthawks (Rutger Hauer as a terrorist, come on!)
19. Black Rain
20. Young Sherlock Holmes

But I mostly just care about 1-8.  I don't really remember Colors too well.

alright, i've added some suggested and non-suggested titles, mostly addressing less well-represented groups (heavy on doc); also national film registry titles.  i didn't really add any of the mainstream stuff, i figured (a) there is a lot of it there already, (b) we could do a smaller (10 film?) poll-in if there is a push for it, (c) a bunch of it will probably find a way in with the 3-lists, and (d) some of it will probably find a way in when some of the bracket's obscure titles prove unavailable or get super-resurrected.  so, speak up quickly if you think something more obscure really should be in, or if you think we should do another mini-add of pop films.  lastly, don't forget to adjust or complete your 3 if so inclined

and, the only film i have pulled from the earlier list is Hotel Terminus, still open to more persuasion if folks want a film gone.  pix, it seems to me Paris, Texas is just as/more of a US film than anything else - it is hard for me to imagine being affixed to somewhere else; wenders clearly has a thing with americana, and i believe he road-tripped the us a bit before doing P,T; also in the bracket is his Hammet, should that go too?  it was written by shepard; works as an american road movie...anyone done reading on wenders (and/or know his feeling on the issue)?  i am still more inclined to pull Once Upon a Time in America, anyone have thoughts on that one?  i haven't experienced it, but read something about it necessarily commenting on an italian perspective of the US, or something like that.  Bagdad Cafe i also don't know, thoughts?
