I had two memorable movie experiences with movies from this year.  The first was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which I watched with my 11 year old brother and she-who-would-later-be-named Mrs. oldkid.  Mrs. oldkid and I were disgusted by many of the proceedings, especially the scene with a heart, but my brother passively watched the screen, eating popcorn throughout the worst of it.

The second was a year later when I was in India and I decided to watch A Passage in India.  It was packed and I was the only white face with blonde hair.  The portrayal of the prejudiced British folks made me really uncomfortable in that setting as if they might target me for a lynching.  It was interesting how so many people dressed up to go the film.

Nausicaa
Amadeus
Buckaroo Banzai
Ghostbusters

For the fifth it could be: Gremlins, Streets of Fire, Spinal Tap or Blood Simple.

In my younger years, this was the year I watched the most films.  Not sure how, I was going to college and working.

  • Stop Making Sense (Jonathan Demme)
  • Broadway Danny Rose (Woody Allen)
  • Amadeus (Milos Forman)
  • Repo Man (Alex Cox)
  • Paris, Texas (Wim Wenders)
  • Two movies are in the Top 100
  • The Terminator is this year's biggest shame
  • I'd like to watch Night Of The Comet (Thom Eberhardt)
