So, we've pretty much created post-whoring threads for cinephiles, wanna-be-cooks, failed musicians, and other petty forms of information. Why not for gaming? Sure video games may seem stigmatic when compared to "higher forms" of entertainment; but then again, who can afford to see a Broadway play or a film every night in this economy? Nevertheless, there is much fun to be had in this diverse and growing hobby that is gaming...
Tonight, I'm settling down with a cup of coffee, a keyboard, a microphone and three friends from the far reaches of the internet globe to play
Left 4 Dead.
The guys at Valve (the ones who brought you the Half Life series, Counterstrike, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress 2, etc) know how to make an entertaining game and this is no exception. Working as a team is key and I have a blast doing so. The zombies in this game are much akin to the likes of those found in Danny Boyle's "
28 Days Later"... except some of these 'infected' have particular powers that can corner and kill any survivor. That's where the teamwork comes in. Conversely, the star of the show is the A.I. director, which rewards and punishes teams on the fly for using specific tactics and exploits. It keeps the game fresh and engaging... never static or repetitive.
