Jaws made me terrified of the water and Arachnophobia made me fear the spider, and The Fly made me scared of getting involved in any arm wrestles. And bathroom mirror cabinets.

I do love that scene in The Squid & the Whale when Bernard suggested that Walt and his girlfriend should see that film over Short Circuit and he went with them.
