  • Dangerous Liaisons (Stephen Frears)
  • Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story (Todd Haynes)
  • Midnight Run (Martin Brest)
  • Miracle Mile (Steve De Jarnatt)
  • The Vanishing (George Sluizer)
  • No movie is in the Top 100
  • Kieslowski's two short films were released this year, but I have chosen to lump them together with The Decalogue
  • I'd like to see Drowning By Numbers

It is easy to see why A Short Film about Love and A Short Film about Killing are put into the Dekalog, but Keislowski filmed the tv show and the movie shorts with different cameras, he extended the two stories, and he released the two theatrically.  So I keep them separate, while reserving the right to claim that Dekalog, as a whole,  is one of the greatest films of all time.

Formally it obviously is the right way to handle the matter in such a way! Both the short films outmatch their corresponding parts in The Decalogue; I just wanted to keep things simple. In my view the sum of The Decalogue itself is considerably greater than the value of the episodes themselves.

Can’t believe I’m the only one who selected Running on Empty.  That film is sublime.
