Well, Commando is the pinnacle of the cinematic art, so it doesn't really count.

is there no love out there for cinema paradiso?

I thought it was great, but as it is in the same year as Grave of the Fireflies, I can't vote for it. A Fish called Wanda and Die Hard are really tempting choices as well. I plan on watching A Short Film about Love on Sunday, and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown is a priority on the "to do" list as well (if only I could find it).

Alright. A little bit of backup for Grave. With a couple more votes it just might secure a second place finish.

-James Bond: A little. But I won't consider myself to be in trouble until I start weeping blood.

I voted for Grave, but I really wanted to be the lone vote for Beetlejuice.

Since I voted for the entire Dekalog in 1989, I'll switch to Roger Rabbit for this year.

i've just finished watching grave of the fireflies and.........wow!!!  That film has hit very hard. How can something so sad be so amazing? Truly truly worthy of getting through to the knockouts. I'm gonna take my vote off cinema paradiso and secure this film the place it deserves. I ain't gonna forget this film in a hurry

I have come here to chew bubblegum, and kick ass.....and i'm all out of bubblegum!

I love Grave of the Fireflies (and My Neighbor Totoro), but my vote had to go to Last Temptation of Christ, my Top Film of the 1980's.

 My fave:

  5. Die Hard - A Chhristmas favorite of mine. And the test of any holiday film is if answers this question: Does it inspire the holiday spirit within me?
Yippy-kay-yay, mother-f#cker.
This is how great Christmas-themed action movies are supposed to be made.

  4. Colors - Finally, a movie that started to address the reality of the relationship between the police-world & that of the modern gangsta lifestyle.

  3. The Last Temptation of Christ - Best. Jesus. Movie. Ever.

  2.  Akira - My first look at anime. Well, kick ass anime that is.
When I first saw this, I realized that, if I didn't have to work for a living, I would spend all of my time lookin' up at what those crazy asians were concocting on the animation tip, yo.

  1.  Midnight Run - I never get tired of watching this film.
And even though it's a good film to watch on TV, I really think it's best watched uncensored. Deniro's use of the F-word is really crucial in depicting his absolute frustration with Grodin's character. I laugh every time just watchin' DeNiro's face every time Grodin pushes him to the limit.
"Criticism is the laziest form of expression ."

- some deep dude.
