Days of Heaven is very good. So is The Godfather, but Days of Heaven is better. Exquisitely shot and emotionally evocative. It's not quite as captivating as Badlands to me, I think I prefer the slight rough edges of Badlands over the more meticulous nature of Days of Heaven, but it's close. The Godfather is, much like Casablanca, a nearly flawless execution of many common tropes, what it lacks in pure originality it makes up in execution. But the underlying tropes and style are not as interesting to me as Casablanca, so it doesn't quite transcend the lack of originality and make me think of it as one of the greats even if its cultural status says it is. At least the finalist isn't Part II which, while also a very good film, is noticeably weaker to me.
