Brilliant. Thanks for posting that.

After QoS do people still want more Bond?

While I thought Casino Royale was a superior film to QoS, QoS still had great sequences (the opera house comes to mind), a strong cast and one of the better recent Bond girls. And even not liking Q0S as much as Casino, I'd still rather watch that installment than any of the ones featuring, say, Pierce Brosnan. For me, Craig as Bond has breathed life back into the 007 series and redefined Bond for a new generation.

Thank you.

A little off topic, but I've been watching the old Moore films.  I never gave them much respect, but when I watch them with my tongue firmly in cheek, and just set out ot have some fun, I may have been too hard on them.  Maybe because my first Bond memory was seeing A View To A Kill in theaters, still not good, but not as bad as I had thought.

Anyway, my main point is the new release/blu-ray versions.  I can't stand the menus.  The original collector's edition menu's were much better.  The whole 'Initiate Mission' stuff.  Much cooler.

Instead of starting another thread for general 007 news and updates (I don't think the franchise is loved enough on the boards for that), I figured I'd use this one to share some interesting updates on the world of James Bond.

http://commanderbond.net/article/5950

The DVD/Blu-Ray release date for Quantum of Solace has been set: March 24th. A single-disc DVD and a 2-disc Special Edition will be available on the market. A quick visit to one of the Bond message boards I visit occasionally pointed me to YouTube videos of the bonus material, so you have been warned. The 2-disc edition isn't that special. Anyways, a lack of a commentary and deleted scenes (long standing staples of Bond DVDs) means there will be a double dip sometime in the future. Purchase cautiously.

The Blu-Ray edition will contain all the bonus material found on the 2-disc DVD, but of course in high definition.

Single-disc edition DVD

2-disc Special (barf) Edition

Blu-Ray

Is it just me or do the 2-disc DVD and Blu-Ray have absolutely atrocious packaging? For one of the greatest franchises in the history of freaking cinema, why do Bond DVD covers always look like rubbish?

I haven't seen Quantum, but yeah the packaging does look pretty bad. I don't really care for the regular edition cover either though.

http://www.mi6.co.uk/sections/articles/dvd_bluray_phase2.php3?t=&s=&id=02147

Following suite with the initial Bond Blu-Ray releases last October (Dr. No (Vol.1), From Russia With Love (Vol. 2), Thunderball (Vol. 2), Live and Let Die (Vol. 1), For Your Eyes Only (Vol. 2), Die Another Day (Vol. 1)), on March 24th, the second wave of Blu-Ray films will be released alongside Quantum of Solace.

Like in October of '08, you'll have the option of purchasing the films individually or in a volume package, this being the 3rd. The second wave will include:
Goldfinger, yay!
Moonraker, ouch.
The World is Not Enough, yay!

What's that word that's floating around the boards? Ah yes...seminal.

Lois Chiles looks as surprised as I am that they're releasing this one.

Would have preferred Sophie Marceau on the cover, but least Richards looks good.

After blue and gold, the logical next color was of course...gray? Okay...

Happy March 24th!

Remember, if you have that itching for 007 updates, you know what thread to visit now.

I agree. Are they intentionally trying to get people to buy the cheap single disk package? I actually like that box art. Honestly, if you want us to buy the fancy expensive mega deluxe edition, spend a couple extra bucks to make the packaging kickass.

Christ.  I have no desire to upgrade TWINE and MR.  The only way that happens is if Amazon does that crazy deal again on the sets (both for $70).  So no news on Vol. 4 yet, huh?  Wasn't there a rumor that LTK and DAF were going to be in it?  I'm assuming QoS will be a part of it too.

No news on volume 4, which is worrisome because volumes 1 and 2 were announced together. That means Vol 3 might be the only movies we get for another 3-4 months. Moonraker...

Things can change of course. The rumor I've heard regarding Volume 4 is that it would contain The Man With the Golden Gun, Licence to Kill and...Quantum of Solace. Strange given that Sony has rights over QOS and Casino Royale, the latter which saw very different DVD releases in terms of style, packaging, menus, etc, than the Ultimate Editions from '06.

Again, that's a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt.

As usual, you know where to go for 007 news and updates!

Remember when Sean Connery, after a 12 year absence from the role of 007, decided to give it one more go? Yeah, that odd but still somewhat entertaining Thunderball remake called Never Say Never Again. Well, on the same day Quantum Of Solace and the second wave of classic Bonds are released on Blu-Ray (March 24th), Never Say Never Again will be released in a special edition DVD and Blu-Ray. There is a DVD of the movie that's been available for a few years now, but apparently it's rubbish.

Oh, how March 24th can't come soon enough. Except for Moonraker. That'll feel pretty painful to buy. Oh well, you gotta stick to your guns through thick and thin.
