Probably not the best place to ask, but after so much love from Filmspotters, I'm looking to buy a copy of Crime and Punishment. I was wondering if people had a translation they would recommend. I nearly bought a copy yesterday, but I stopped because I wasn't sure if there was a more widely regarded translation I should be looking out for.

Ta in advance.

Good for you. It's great stuff. Without doing any research whatsoever, my advice would be to grab whatever is the most recent Penguin classics version you find. They've always served me well.

Agreed. It's hard to go wrong with Penguin.

-James Bond: A little. But I won't consider myself to be in trouble until I start weeping blood.

I had a coupon, and god knows that I need more unread books to throw on my pile:

Also, The Dog of the South by Charles Portis

I saw the line of Murakami titles and couldn't remember which one people liked most but I recognized the cover.  And then I went with the one that sounded most interesting.  EXPLORING!

I did the same exact thing. I hope you don't regret it.

Nah, my tastes jive fairly well with everyone who has recommended it so it shouldn't be an issue.

I love both of them. I know roujin will probably disagree on the second but regardless, I think you're in for some good times and eagerly await your reaction :). So good to see more people get on the murakami bandwagon.

My boyfriend gave me a first trade edition from 1952 of my favorite book for Valentine's Day.  East of Eden by John Steinbeck.
