Pedro Almodovar marathon
« on: August 10, 2006, 01:10:12 PM »
I just saw a preview recently of an Almodovar restrospective in the theaters, and it looked so good. He has a wonderful visual style and vivid female characters in most of his films. My all time favorites are probably "Talk to her" and "Law of Desire", which are both going to be in the retrospective. This would also coincide with his new film "Volver" with Penelope Cruz. It won best female ensemble cast and screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival.

I watched all the Almodovar movies a while back on DVD and loved them - it was so great to see him evolve and his use of cast members in different roles.  VOLVER is superb too - and would provide a perfect hook for a marathon.  The Best Actress award was for the entire female ensemble cast and it is well deserved. This is already my favourite Almodovar movie after All About My Mother

Yes please, we need a foreign director marathon and Almodovar would be perfect. I remember going to see Talk to Her in theaters and just being floored, it is truley an underrated masterpiece, I have most of his films now and he is one of the few directors that is equally enjoyed by men and women. Ive also seen the preview for Volver and I cant wait til it comes out.
And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
