Looking at 7 story building-side posters of Johnny Depp everywhere I drive. So glad to be back out of LA. It is Alice in Wonderland right? I have the name right, don't I?
imdb tells me that one of Tim Burton's goals is to take the focus off the episodic nature of many other Alice adaptations, and by building prominent central characters that are integral to the story rather than individuals who float in and out of scenes he hopes to weave a more sustained narrative, with which I applaud because I think the aspect that makes the original Disney adaptation so mediocre is the episodic nature. The marketing is playing up the Mad Hatter a bit too much, I agree, but I also don't know what Burton's final vision looks like, so it may be completely justified. He certainly proved that, despite it being called
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that he could make a tremendous film focusing on Depp's character rather than the child. Though it may just be Tim's desire to stick with original titles even when they displace a film's central focus. I mean Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a more apt title for that film, but he wanted to hold on to the original title regardless. I'm still hardcore excited to see Alice.
