I don't have any trouble with headphones in, but I did a bit in The Master when I watched it on the big screen.  I understood him just fine in Inherent Vice and in The Immigrant on my laptop.

Inherent Vice
4/5

I'm glad you ended up enjoying this. It was one of my favorites last year and I'm glad PTA remembered his funny bone. Very much agreed on PTA's ability to bring the best out of his actors.

I revisited Inherent Vice and relistened to the podcast episode recently. I am now convinced it is indeed a good to very good movie. It was a delight to plunge into it again.

There Will Be Blood
The Master
Inherent Vice
Punch-Drunk Love

Boogie Nights
Magnolia
Hard Eight

I love Inherent Vice, one of the best comedies of recent years. I understand the indifference/antipathy towards Magnolia, too. I find it a slog to sit through in one go, and still struggle to remember large parts of it. It reminds me of what Peter Griffin said about the Godfather...

It insists upon itself.

How good is that scene!  8)

Magnolia: The film where a bunch of rich white people scream and cry for 3 hours. Xavier Dolan saw this film and was like, "So you CAN make a career off of OTT meaningless melodrama".

I don't hate it though. It's the text-book definition of a (C) film from me.
