My memories of #2 to #10 aren't too good. I can't disagree with your top pick though. :)

Memoirs of a Geisha I haven't seen and jumps out at me as one I would probably love. I'm going to add it to the list of movies I need to watch.

These would be my top 5 scores from this the decade:

1. Spirited Away
2. The Fog of War
3. Winged Migration
4. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
5. Hero

I would probably eliminate Pirates of the Caribbean.  Its been a while since I made that list.  Would probably replace it with batman begins.  But you really don't like the score for benjamin button??  Its pretty good.  I like your top 5, so I think we have similar taste.  YOu should give it another try.

Spirited Away is amazing!!! that first chored, its just.. it transports you instantly.  I love hero and crouching tiger.  Both excellent scores.  You should give The Last Samurai and Kung Fu Panda a try (that is if you already haven't).  I haven't heard 2 or 3, but definite will give it a try.  You should here Memoirs of a Geisha, it's right up your alley.

I listened to Saturday Night Fever coming home from the airport today. It's been a long time since I've heard those songs, but it's amazing how the words and harmonies come flooding back. I have to run again, but want to comment on a few of them later.

I know Grease like the back of my hand so am very happy to see it made your list. :)

Okay, I need to jot down some of my thoughts on this soundtrack, so the songs will stop rattling around in my head.

I should fess up and say that the only parts of this movie I've seen are the opening credits and Travolta dancing on the lit up checkerboard, so unfortunately I don't have the movie playing as I listen to the songs. I'm not sure that matters too much, since the music is so evocative of a time and place.

As I drove down the road and recalled words from long ago and was able to sing along with one of the Bee Gees' harmonies, it dawned on me just how iconic and enduring this stuff is. I can't believe I forgot all about A Fifth of Beethoven! I was laughing out loud thinking how that got played to death on the radio back in the day. I also desperately wished I could have been in the recording of that song playing this:

vibraslap!

It made me so happy every time it was struck.

I don't know if I should be mad at More Than A Woman (Is there something deficient/incomplete about being a woman?), but I just can't be. Putting aside the clunky word choice, this is an awesome song! I forgive it for it's put down because of words like this, "we can take forever just a minute at a time."

My favorite song is How Deep Is Your Love. The Bee Gees really knock it out of the park with this one, with all there oohs and ahhs, in all their glory. They hold nothing back:

I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You're the light in my deepest darkest hour
You're my saviour when I fall

Alright, putting SNF to bed, cause it's time to pull myself out of the 70's.  :)

It's the Yvonne Elliman for me. Saturday Night Fever plays a little like Mean Streets. Given what it's known for, disco always had a gay vibe to it, certainly the New York side, and given Travolta's preening, it's tough little movie. So for this unbearable painful woman's song to appear in the middle of all this testosterone, and leave it all standing. One of the great vocals.

Not a great film.

Grease is similar. It has its show tunes front loaded but SNF takes a tour through disco standards like Disco Inferno, and I really like Open Sesame. Grease gives you a sample of rock n roll standards, like a history lesson.

So well put! Exactly like history lessons.

I loved Elliman's song. Now that I understand it more, it takes on a whole other level of meaning. They're not just words to a ballad, but are the impossibility of her situation. Thanks for telling me.
