Obviously, I'm the most pathetic person of the bunch having only seen 2 theatrical releases this year so far.

1. Up-*****/*****
2. Watchmen-****/*****

You're ahead of me by 2.

Well, it might be 3 because this weekend.  I hope to see The Brothers Bloom

I have not got around to the theatre nearly as much as I did last year but I am starting to make it more often.  I don't think 2009 has been great by any means but there have been some films I really enjoyed and many more coming up that I think look great.  And looking at it, I haven't actually seen anything that I thought was really bad so I've been lucky I guess.

1. The Soloist
2. The Brothers Bloom
3. Watchmen
4. Sunshine Cleaning
5. Up
6. The International
7. Observe and Report
8. Coraline
9. Terminator Salvation
10. Land of the Lost
11. Taken
12. The Hangover

This week I should be seeing Goodbye Solo and Away We Go so I'd expect this list to get a shake-up.  And since I didn't see Gomorrah in theatres but saw it on PPV I didn't add that, I think it is a 2008 film anyways.  And Easy Virtue, Shall We Kiss? and Summer Hours are all films I've seen in recent weeks but does that count as 2009 since everything I've seen says the film is 2008?  If so, things would definately change on my list.

All of those 2008 ones can count as 2009 as far as we're concerned...

Just keep The Hangover low and we'll be good, mostly. It wouldn't hurt if a few of those films knocked Up out of the Top 5 as well.

My list is pretty pathetic, but I'm too poor to pay to see trash in the theatre. And when you see the trash, it's only because I had free tickets to one of the multiplexes that only shows trash. Including Filmspot eligible films. My grading system changed recently, and I'm not going to retroactively change scores, or look back through threads to find the original scores.

1. The Class (Laurent Cantet, 2008)
2. Samson and Delilah (Warwick Thornton, 2009)
3. Sita Sings the Blues (Nina Paley, 2008)
4. My Year Without Sex (Sarah Watt, 2009) C+
5. He's Just Not That Into You (Who cares, 2009)

I saw The Brothers Bloom late last year, but I'm not prepared to put it on the list without a second viewing.
