Best Korean Film of 2003
« on: May 06, 2009, 10:43:36 AM »
Much thanks to zarodinu for inspiring this list.

I feel that Old Boy will probably take it simply because it was the most widely seen.  (And yes, I strongly urge you to add any of these you haven't seen to your DVD queue.  4 of them are worthy of their reputation and the 5th is still very interesting even if it doesn't completely work.)

If you don't mind, can those of you who vote please tell me which of the 5 choices you've watched.

Yeah, Old Boy is the only one I've seen, so voting wouldn't be very fair. I do have Memories of Murder in my queue, and at least two of the others on my radar.

I've only seen Old Boy and A Tale of Two Sisters and wasn';t all that impressed with the latter. Not going to vote till I watch Spring Summer.

I liked everything but Oldboy, which too had moments of utter brilliance.  Going to go with Spring Summer since I am a huge Kim Ki Duk fan, though I got to hand it to Save the Green Planet for sheer insanity.

I really recommend Memories of Murder as well, in my opinion it is superior to both Silence of the Lambs, and maybe even Seven in terms of serial killer films.

I’ve lied to men who wear belts. I’ve lied to men who wear suspenders. But I’d never be so stupid as to lie to a man who wears both a belt and suspenders.

I've seen everything but Save the Green Planet.  Having trouble deciding between Spring and Memories.

I had the same dilemma, I probably gave it to Kim Ki Duk purely based on the rest of his filmography.

Only seen Spring Summer and Oldboy.

You should see Memories soon.  Bordwell is a fan.  I think he called it the best cop movie in years a while back.  Not quite on Zodiac's level, but Memories is a hell of a film.  A hell of a film.

As for this poll, I'm going with Memories.  I've seen all the films listed in the poll.  Spring places second.

A Good Lawyer's Wife is another great 2003 Korean film.

My list would be Memories, Wife, then Spring.
