Top 5 Movies you're embarassed to like
« on: August 07, 2005, 09:31:23 PM »
1. Beaches (1988) - Too embarassing for words
2. Hook (1991) - Yes, I dont' want to grow up
3. Dances with Wolves (1990) - It's like admiting to love the Spice Girls
4. Alladin (1992) - I know every line *blushing*
5. The Last Man On Planet Earth (1999, TV) - Used to be the worst movie I had ever seen. But it's so bad I keep getting back to it and mentioning it to other people. So I've grown fonder and fonder of it. It's the kind you love to hate.

There's nothing wrong with liking Dances With Wolves or Aladdin, those are genuinely good movies!

Here's my top 5

5.Happy Gilmore- I know Adam Sandler....ouch!
4.Sphere-it's really the novel that I love and though it's a terrible rendition, somehow I kind of like it......
3.Jurassic Park 3- It is a disgrace to the novels and the previous films but I still like it.......
2.The Island- I loved the first part although the second part was classic Bay style, I found a way to enjoy it.  PS I hope Sam isn't reading this!
1.Dumb and Dumberer-OMG I don't know how but I find myself laughing the whole way through this film and I always enjoy the "s***" scene.

Wow it's nice to have that off my chest!

That's quite a list! I agree with you on Sphere, I absolutelly loved the book - the fillm is not so bad, but the books is so good that it was hard to live up to it. Despite the stelar cast, I didn't feel like it delivered on the story very well - first of all, Dusting Hoffman is too old for that part, second, you can't convince me Sharon Stone was in love with him  :P

Top 5 Movies I'm Embarassed To Admit to Liking...

1.Cruel Intentions - I'm a sucker for teen comedies/ teen movies all around.
2.Don Juan Demarco - I wasn't until like 20 people made fun of me for owning it.
3.Paycheck - Mindless action, Ben Affleck, the ever indulgent John Woo.
4.The Postman - I just do.  And this is the best example of how a movie can be better than its source material, I.E. Book.

1.  The Wedding Singer & any other Adam Sandler movie bar Punch Drunk Love.
2.  The Princess Diaries - and a whole bunch of Lindsay Lohan flicks I have to sit through with my kid sister.
3.  Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves
4.  Top Gun - and all those macho, fast car, fast planes, Tom Cruise movies from the '80s.
5.  Patch Adams.

How about movies you are embarassed that you DON'T like?  You know, artsy movies universally lauded as works of genius that just bore you rigid.  For me, it would be:
1.  Fellini's 8 1/2.
2.  Antonioni's Blow Up
3. Godard's Breathless/A bout de souffle
4.  Kurosawa's Seven Samurai
5.  Kubrick's 2001: A  Space Odyssey.

Seriously, I actually fell asleep during the last two - which may mark me out as a vulgarian, or someone with ADD......
