I'm a bit on the fence about even posting this. It's a fairly unflattering excerpt from some Miyazaki interview or documentary. He just has a REALLY extreme reaction to some animators showing him what they've been working on, and you can tell it's a soul-crushing experience for them. Kind of changes my perception of the man. Watch at your own risk.

Maybe because of your build up, but I didn't find this unflattering at all. His reaction isn't one of dismissiveness, it's one of offense, and he tries to be reasonably diplomatic about it. And to be honest, while that seems like cool interesting tech that they've developed it doesn't strike me as the kind of thing that would appeal to Miyazaki since it's about giving animated beings their own independent processes whereas Miyazaki strikes me as a control freak who would want animated beings to do exactly what he makes them do, no more and no less.

Never saw the reboot but the trailers looked painfully unfunny and I'm curious to watch this breakdown.

It's excellent. The Plinkett review that is. It identifies the trend that pervades the genre right now... which is to just tell everyone to improv every scene and hope that something funny comes out of it.
