80s US bracket 1 [pre]
« on: June 28, 2009, 12:43:39 AM »
curious before we start how many of these films you've experienced - thus the pre, and i'm thinking it would be fun to poll this again after the bracket is done (but maybe not :) )

i've only seen 19 of them (that i remember anything about), there are 4 that i know nothing about (and maybe hadn't even heard of), and only 3 that i would say i really like (though i have high hopes for a couple of others :) )

and i'm pretty sure we used to play the Yes one at a video store i used to work at, but have zero recollection of it.  i'm curious to check it out (again?)

12...

was there a decision of the relevance of director's cuts?  I know 9012 Live is quite different in its two versions (though I believe both are on the dvd).  The original a a bunch of computer image shots interspersed with the raw live footage but the DC is just a straight live concert.

not sure, but the original sounds more interesting - perhaps Basil will weigh in on this as it was his pick.  some of the old discussion i remember is about when the dc happened - is that the/an issue?  with Swing Shift, Rosenbaum actually notes that the original version is the good one, i'm not sure what that means, or what it is in contrast with, but at least we know which versions counts there :)

also was the idea that live concert films were not to be included jettisoned?  I don't see any others on the list but i had fallen behind in the bracket discussion so maybe it was broughted up in there some where.
