aah, not seen that but IMDB lists it as one.

and the Jimi Plays Monterey, eh?  (if that's what it's called)

is that not just a re-packaging of a section of the complete version from 1968?

i dont even know [goes to check], it would kinda seem that way, eh? if we find this is so, i guess it'll be the first casualty of the bracket

seems that there is new material included

that review is of a new 2007 dvd compilation: "Live at Monterey is yet another permutation of D.A. Pennebaker’s films Monterey Pop and its offshoot Jimi Plays Monterey"

interesting issue with this one - seems some but not all the material was in the original film of Monterey Pop from '68:(wiki)

(In 2002 Monterey Pop was re-released on DVD as part of a Criterion Collection box set, The Complete Monterey Pop Festival, that also includes Pennebaker's short films Jimi Plays Monterey (1986) and Shake! Otis at Monterey (1986), as well as two hours of outtake performances, including some by bands not seen in the original film.)

but is included in what amounts to a director's cut of that footage released on DVD in 2002 by criterion

without having watched either Jimi Plays Monterey or Monterey Pop i guess i can't be sure, but Pennebaker's website also notes 1985 for JPM, so i'm inclined to believe it is different
But I wish the public could, in the midst of its pleasures, see how blatantly it is being spoon-fed, and ask for slightly better dreams.

I just popped in the disc to check.  It's basically the complete set from Monterey, but with additional material bookending it.  I'd say it counts, because Pennebaker clearly created it as a separate film.
