Stayed at work til 3 AM getting a sexual assault report properly handled and driving the victim home in the next county. What is it about late Sunday night and sexual assault reports?
Football + team loses + alcohol
Here's the thing: most of the time the assault happened anywhere from 12 hours to 2 weeks previously. Last night was unusual in that it was a stranger assault and the victim reported it immediately after it happened.
Most often it happened early in the day on Sunday or over Saturday night but they decide to report it (or go to an ER for treatment, and the hospital calls us because of mandatory reporting laws) after 9PM on Sunday night. Maybe it's because it's the first chance they've had to catch their breath all week or think about it and/or talk to friends and decide it wasn't their fault after all and should be reported.
I also see a low correlation between Sunday night reports and willingness of the victim to continue on with the case after that. Even the ones who reported themselves (as opposed to ER nurses) and say that they want to prosecute drop off the face of the earth and don't return calls etc. Depressing.
